Today I tried to take a photograph of seagulls on the roof of the house behind ours. I wish you'd been here to take it for me; my photo is so poor compared to these photos of yours. Can I blame it on my camera????...LOL
I love the shadows; I take it that is yours over the baby peacock. The last photo is angelic.....ahhh
Take care; good to see a new post on your blog...I miss you
(((hugs)))

Beautiful shots of the birds and shadows. I especially like the pigeon shadow on the stairs.

Glad to see a post from you...these photos are particularly fine. The steps are most striking to me - but of course I love the little girl surrounded by a blur of wings too.

Beautiful pictures.......love the symmetry of the second, the reflections. The final one, lovely soft focus, and the innocence of the pretty little girl, keep getting drawn to the lovely bright background when I look at this, such depth..

Good to see you post again

Just popped in to reply, & meanwhile I am transfixed by this brilliant song again....every word. First, thanks everyone for keeping faith.
Now, Ruth, I've been thinking of the seagull question. I wish I could have been there too, it depends on so many things. But I also remember my first attempts on a beach a few years ago. I knew exactly what I wanted to capture, but it didn't come out right. That was down to technique. Then I think I just have to say, in honesty & modesty, I just got better with cameras. I'm talking about manual use of single lens reflexes, controlling shutter speed and aperture. But it was also down to shooting more 'aggressively', becoming more proactive, and hugely patient at the same time. You study birds, you get to learn almost they are thinking, and what they're going to do. It becomes like puppetry, in some strange way. Use the light, particularly if there's sunshine. Get in close, too. You can only blame it on the camera if the lens is too limited to get you closer. Did that help?
The second one was an extraordinary reality. The heat of August, a lot of pea families with their new young. This peahen had to cross an open field of grass with her very young chick & no shade. So she did the job of protecting it with her own shadow. Not mine! It was a scene of natural beauty: they would scuttle along so quickly, then stop suddenly, then move on again - dictated by the pace of the chick. But no matter how fast or slow, or whatever the direction, at no time did that chick even minimally escape its mum's shadow. i just waited till they got as close to me as they were going to get, before a path and on to the shelter of the trees. Love it!

P.W.Be, hi, me too, I really like that one. It's like watching pigeons at some pigeon-theatre!
Hi, Jen, thanks. I was inspired to try again suddenly by hearing Leonard at Ruth's! The little girl like in the ethereal with giant pigeons...it looks so unreal. It reminds me of another time and place, that place and the hours joyfully spent there all around the year, watching or working. Picking up the camera every time something out of the ordinary occurred. Now the memories are preserved, like S & G sang in my header.
Audrey, don't you think that pic has a dark side too? I think it's because of the perspective of those pigeons that represent some threat to her innocence.
And Stephen, I need an answer to this. 3 of them have pigeons and I don't know which one you mean.
The first one - a January sky in central Lisbon - always makes me think of those pictures of spitfire & hurricane squadrons flying in formation during the Battle of Britain!

Yes, it is the one with the shadow on the step. Beautiful!

Hi Stewart - love the pigeon shot - it's great. Glad you're back at it - very good to have you "free" to take pics again.

Ive looked again, but no dark side, just memories of what its like to be a four year old, fascinated and intriqued by wings and movement and the way birds walk and their eyes, and , and lol love the picture. x

Magnifique la photo des pigeons en noir et blanc, effet de symétrie, les deux rangées de pigeons, une qui est un reflet et le must : cette volante saisie au vol

Blogger wouldn't let me comment here before, so I'll try again.

Love the peahen and chick... as all of the pics. YOu still have the knack.
