I had a new idea to take my visitors to one place & show it from different angles, different times , so that you can get more of a perspective on what it might really be like. If I could have been allowed one more pic, I'd have liked to include something from behind it, to show the full height and the concourse leading to it.
P.1, looking up river, with the superb new Queen Mary 2 just pulling out from the dockside.
In the late-14th into the 15th century, the Portuguese invented globalisation by discovering sea-routes to everywhere. This site was only built in 1960, as a gift of the South African apartheid govt. to their friends the Portuguese fascist (& broke) dictators.
At the head, leading an array of distinguished discoverers like Cabral (Brazil) & Magellan (Straits of) is Henry the Navigator, as at the bows of a vessel, leaning out over the water.
You can go to the top, there's a good multi-media show on Lisbon.
Or you can wait till night-fall for some romance like my couple kissing as the sun disappears into the Atlantic. For the technically-minded, yep, it's film.
This close-up is with a 135 mm lens.
The statuary is the most impressive part of this monument.
I think there really should be that missing picture. Too bad.

I am as petrified as the stone vessel. One of the most impressive monuments I have seen lately. The choice of the different angles, and times of day a whole success. It looks perfect any way you look at it. Don't hesitate in showing us more images like these. Thanks for the tip about events in your city and the invitation.
This last one is very good. What great colors!
These pictures you have here are exactly what I got as a request some mounths ago, you say you have 5 mb the printout goes to 20x30- 300dpi then it is good enough!!!
bom dia Lisboa! Absolutely stunning monument. It makes you think of all these great and courageous men who sailed around the world. Nice blog, well done!

These are superb shots nowhere mann. Beautiful I also love the black and white with Patti watching the eclipse.. she looks like she's an athlete in the olympic games with those cool glasses and white top!
Absolutely breathtaking "somewhere" man! And ya know what? I'd LOVE to see your masterpieces in larger format...ever consider tweaking a few lines of Blogger code to go BIGGER?
Keep up the great work!

Ame, thanks, just wanted to tell you that there is a frame on the wall with 3 similar shots enlarged, all of Monument close-ups. One isthe 135 mm of Henryleading the discovers out to sea that you can see in this set, white on deep blue. i love it! In another 3-shot set is the one of the lovers at sunset under the monument & blood-red sky. So, we think alike on that!
