They are not talking about geographical distance, but they do all tend to urge me to consider physiognomical resemblances, even facial hair. They actually mean (I suspect) intangibles such as indolence and drowning themsleves in past glories. A few of the more irate and irrational have even gone so far as to blame centuries that cultivated passivity and somnolence on Os Moros and a similar climate, particularly as far as the Alentejo is concerned.

[But I do now remember how I was up on the plinth of the Marquês de Pombal statue waiting for the start of the anti-war demonstration in March 2003, a few days after the invasion of Iraq, watching the crowds gathering. Suddenly, I spotted a tall man walking amongst them, head high, about 55 years old, with a familar expression of superiority joined with the look of a serial killer behind a big bigode. Complexion and features that the police and press have uniformly described since the first Palestinian acts of international terrorism as "Middle Eastern". That man was SO the spit of Saddam Hussain that it was chilling]
So I popped off these two images, taken a few kms apart, in the 'elegant' resort town that was once Cascais and the magnificence that is still Guincho.
I have already played the trick on my pink-skinned compatriots and they bought it without questioning - accepting that the pictures are postcards shot on my travels in Morroco.........where I have never set foot!

How long ago where these images shot.
We think we are europe. Great picture with the colours
I really believe they bought it... But the main thing about the post is that this last shot is one of my favorites. And this is not because I is a great picture, in spite of the quality of the picture as a work of art itself, but also 'cos it's a very evocative image of my beloved Guincho. I was introduced to it photographically to Guincho in the Spring of 2004. Now I think there are just a few of rocks to which I didn't point one of my lenses... But it's always a place to which I want to come back, mainly at times I haven't been there: at night, and in the early morning (I was there once, but I only have 2 rolls of film of it...
Hope we can arrange a "flight" to Guincho.
Cheers.
Afotografia, the first was in September 05 and the Hotel do Guincho ("Sheltering Sky") was in early November 05.
Next entry will be specially dedicated to you, wait & see!
Hey, Mr P, I know, I know,it is THE beach! Remember the guy with the unchained Rottweiller? And you are the only person who has seen all of those pictures from that Monday afternoon last Nov, including the pcture of myself 1 second before the wave crashed up behind me & through my feet!
Flihgt to Guincho, with my life as it now is, I interpret that word in its sense of "Fuga", not "Voo". One day, we'll do it. Just takes effort, planning, logistics and a couple of rooms in Muxaxo!!
You changed your name? I like swiss Tony.
Well I am cureus to see what you will write about me.
