"Best Job in Lisboa" - 3

It has long been an ambition of mine to try playing the guitarra portuguesa. This is a stringed instrument that produces sounds (in the right hands!) like no other. It is a quintessential component of the best fado, as well as a rich experience to hear played well up front, in instrumentals.
It provides the soundtrack to every cliché image of Portugal. Maybe that isn't fair, maybe it is given too heavy a responsibility, yet it cannot be avoided, this sound is inextricably linked with the strongest impressions, for both the Portuguese and foreigners alike, of this country and its people.

So, to play the guitarra portuguesa for a living - and to so on a summer day in an entrance to the Jeronimos Convent, must bring rare rewards. Posted by Picasa
