By clicking on the link below to the web album, you will find yourself following this walk through all of the grounds and into the house on an October afternoon.
Prepare to be dazzled by this extraordinary place, in which every construction has some masonic significance.

Ready now? I have edited the tour down from 375 to 133 photos, which took 100 minutes to upload!
So please let me know what you think.

The above is a reply to Cergie's report that she couldn't enter the album. Me neither, so I tried various ways to get in, or correct it, including to the picasaweb home site. Even that doesn't work, so it looks like a problem beyond my control. We'll wait and see later.
I really hope it resolves.
PS...Mind you it IS Monday; all public sites are closed to visitors on Mondays, hence no tours in Sintra!!?!
Hi MS
Luckily I have you on my picasa favourites so got to see your photos that way. What a marvellous place. You make me want to travel and see all these wonderful sights.

Mile,
Once you told me composition was the most important issue in photography. I’ve just seen your slideshow and it’s easy to understand what you meant. The place is fantastic and you almost made it easy to photograph.
BTW, the link is not working working cause in the address you typed picasweb instead of picasaweb.
Big thanks to Carlos - this post is rescued! Seems I also need a proof-reader! I do believe that, Carlos, but these grounds are SO photogenic that is almost overwhelming. It is also good to take the guided tour to understand everything there, then go back again in your own time & explore.
One of these days, Ruth. Who knows?
Marvelous photography. Loved the architexture and landscaping shown in your slide show. Looks like a place one could purposefully get lost in. ;)
[Mousie, this is me putting this in by proxy. Something's wrong with the incoming comments. yours got to the mail-box, but blogger is unable to publish it. So I'm doing it "by hand"! M.S.]
Mousie said: "That staircase is beautiful, looks like a shell...
thank you for refreshing my eyes..."
Mile,
I love the spiral steps photo. I'm just dropping in to say hello. I haven't been here since your birthday wishes. Peace~ :)
Why is that Sintra looks even more mysterious and enticing in your px than in reality?
It is so inviting even after having been there myself so many times. What a pity it doesn't snow there, now that would be something.
But even without snow, with the fairytale-like christmas lights, I think even Coka-cola would want to film its next pub-spot there.
querido Stewart!! que placer volver a pasar por aquí! que fotos tan hermosas!!! adoro los espirales y el ritmo de las rectas.. wow...
(ahora que estoy en casa de nuevo, podré venir a visitarte regularmente :)
So, it looks like the spiral staircase wins it, amongst these 4, eh?
Mousie, Tim & Stephen, I really appreciate your comments on these shots & I hope you (M & S) also saw the extended tour, because there is so much more. Also, apologies for my absence over in yours lately. There is pressure sometimes & now is one such time.
We have an expression in England that is "Mind your P's & Q's!", which means roughly "Be polite, speak 'nicely'!". Well, after the totally unexpected happened and Miss P arrived almost at the same monet as Mademoiselle P (Yes, there ARE different people!), I feel that I will have to mind my 'P's' at least, for sure.
Patti, that's a great question. What's the answer? And if it ever REALLY snowed, would it look like Bavaria? I'd never thought of that. Would be amazing, eh? Not that I'd want to see a Coke ad from there. Or anywhere.
Pili, tu fabuloso destino te conduzió de vuelta para tu casa? Sabes, me hijiste mucha falta pero es con gran alegria verte aca de nuevo. De verdad! MWWWWAH!
Thank you, S., for this FANTASTIC tour! I've passed many times by Realeira, and have always wanted to visit it. Somehow, I never did. Until today, for you really made it feel as if I was inside. My favourite is the small pink house in the gardens. Made me think of Hansel and Gretel!
es verdad.. mi fabuloso destino -que yo misma determino- me trajo de vuelta a casa, a cuidar a mi gente amada :)
Espero pasar más fecuentemente ahora. beijinhos!!!
These pictures are magnificent! You truly have a gift and also for words.....compassionate and caring and kind.

Yes I agree, a great place for adult and kids to discover the gardens, wells and mysterious caves. it was designed by Luigi manini in the revivalist style of neo-maneline architecture.
Well worth a visit.
