It was a walk down a hill, across Chiado, inot the Baixa and finishing up in Rossio

. I saw a LOT!
«"The Happiness of Women"
(2) Advert in Baixa pedestrian streets. In the little modelette's eyes

is reflected the Santa Justa elevator. I must show you what it looks like from up there sometime. Oh, who remembers those wonderful oranges with Rossio behind?
(3) A Portuguese street tradition from

autumn to spring; a bag of roasted chestnuts (1 € last year...). The rest of the year, the same vendors sell ice-cream. Obvious enterprise, really, isn't it?
(4) And this is Portuguese pop-singer/actress Lúcia Moniz, sound-checking for a free concert later that night in Rossio. Want to see more of that afternoon?

Spurs are at home! Hope you feel better soon. Such a shame you have to work - rest while you can

Autumn smells of roasted chestnuts. At least to me.
Mile, that's unbelievable... this very morning I was with my wife at Rua do Carmo looking at that same store and thinking it would give a nice pic. But, it was about noon and that façade was in the shadow so I gave up. Excellent catch.
Nice pics.
thank u
I MUST get to that meeting this morning!
But, Ana & Carlos: Chestnuts.... How did I forget to mention São Martinho???? Sorry.
Catlos, that IS strange! Here's a dica (a bit like Benetton,eh?) Go into Armazens do Chiado; go upstairs; go into McDogs, walking quickly past the balcão, holding your nose; go to the window; if nobody is sitting there, look down at the shop from the 1st floor. Better for the calçada too.
While we are on the subject, one of the best places to take photos in Lx is from the WC facing the Castelo in the Armazens. The Exilim loves it!
Deepak, today's the day! Hope it is going well. India must be 7 hours ahead of Portugal, so it's late-afternoon for you now.
Hier, à la foire Saint Martin, on a acheté des marrons chauds, comme c'était la fin de la foire, on nous a bien servis !
Jolie la vitrine. "Au bonheur des dames", c'est un roman d'Emile Zola
Thanks for sharing this bit about your culture. I love learning the customs and ways of life of other people.
the top picture is superbb .. the classic building .. the birck road .. just awesome (atleast to me)
hmm @ roasted chestnuts .. never tried them .. i love such street corner places to eat :)
Chestnuts roasting on a open fire.... I can hear the chipmunks now... And bell and the ho ho ho! (Too much blogging, my arms and legs are all tingly - if you stuck me in a dark room, I'll probably light up like a Christmas tree!) So how are YOU feeling?
I've never had fresh roasted chestnuts. I'd like to try them. They aren't easy to find in California.
What happened to you - why are you so ill? :-(
