NWM in Toiro Town...

...where people don't only have cats & dogs for pets, but bulls too.

"Snoopy, anda cá! O Snoooooooopy!"
In 100 years, I will never understand it. Thank the lord this only happens once a year! Still once too often for my liking.

(I thought suddenly that I felt like posting something like I did in my former incarnation in Blogland..........and this is it. Lighten up time)

Toiro Town sounds good to me ;-)

My favorite detail: the water bottle in front of the charging bull. At first glance the whole scene seems so ancient, traditional - it could be taking place 100 or 200 years ago but then - that symbol of modernity! (of course the t-shirts also give it away!)

I love the one of the bloke and bull staring each other down! Really hate bullfighting though.. Keep well NM.

Mlle P, Playas e desiertos, montañas e llanos y la casa tuya, tu calle y tu patio.....
Qué preciosa!
Snoopy? ´necessitas solamente ponerte en contacto atraves del e-mail (en el perfil) y vas a ver de lo que se trata!

Papalagui, "Lucky Town" by Bruce Springsteen sounds good to me:-)

Jenny, yep, that's it, my favourite detail! They throw anything they have to hand, these pseudo-machos!

Manuel, graçias. Fue un aprovecho, pero no me gusta nada, la tauromaquia.

Luggi, too right, mate! It was as near as I wanted to be, perched up on top of a corral. The machos all get so drunk on sardine-juice that they start fighting each other instead of the bullS!

Neorelix, there were 3 of thatguy to select from. I like it too. Thanks for the ending. I'm fine, but we are both getting demoralised now. No support, no infrastructure, no organisation, no planning - that is the reality of Portugal when it comes to protection of the weakest, the poor, the sick, the old, the dying. We are, to all intents & purposes, alone in this. If you have loads of money or insurance, you can just pack 'em off to the nearest private clinic. We've heard no realistic proposal, but a lot of bla-bla-bla. There will be even more next week, when they all get back from their holidays. But no action.

Some traditions should be forgotten! Hang on.. where were you standing!?

Nice one, John! See my reply to Luggi above.
Although I agree with you, I have to point one thing out with respect to the 'tradition' of bull-fighting in Portugal, in stark contrast with Spain & elsewhere. The object of the activity in the bull-ring is NOT to kill the bull. In fact, he is coaxed to leave the arena (and the streets during this festival) by means of a gaggle of fetching (in both senses of the word) females...cows, that is! It is as much a demonstration of the art of horsemanship and taming here as overcoming the bull's strengths. It's the cultaround it that is beyond me.
