But not for me. Still I can dream, can't I? And if I were able to escape from Lisboa, here are 2 of my all-time favourite places for a perfect rest.
Pics 1 & 2 are in a sublime turismo d'habitação - a kind of family-run small hotel in converted rural farmhouses or grand country houses, to be found all over Portugal . This one is on the edge of Tavira, in the Western Algarve - a town that is still essentially Portugal, while the rest of the Algarve has been sacrificed to the god of European tourism.
Next, if your preference is for a perfectly relaxing stay in the interior countryside of the Alentejo, near Elvas, which is close to the Spanish border, then you need not look further than this magic place, with its wonderful converted 18th century manor house, its large swimming pool looking out for miles & miles over a magnificent gently hilly landscape, its enchanted gardens (see pic.4, even better on a warm summer's night), its walks & horse rides, its excellent regional Alentejano cuisine, its great staff & service and its all round friendliness.
Whichever you choose, don't forget your camera!
Want to know more? Just ask me....I ain't going Nowhere!
And Edwin, sorry, no ready yet. Waiting for Jenny's live lesson via 'chat' after NYC. But it's worth clicking on them all to get a bigger view.

Nowhere Man,
Another great set and another coincidence: I was born in Elvas.
Love the colors.
Carlos, this blog of mine is rapidly becoming THE place for global synchronicity, the centre of the planet (LOL!)
Now you've got me conscious of it & wondering what I'll come up with that you'll be connected to tomorrow....BTW, do you know the place pictured? And how could you ever leave Elvas? No, I can guess! When is your weekly posting day going to be?
Nowhere Man, unfortunately I don't know the place. About leaving Elvas? Well... I didn't had much of a choice, cause I was only 3 years old. I love the city but don't have many bonds there (I have no family there). It's funny cause this year I've been there twice and my parents showed me the houses where we lived... 39 years ago (I am really getting old).
I hope tomorrow I can take a picture I like enough to post.
The 3rd and 4th pictures I love only because of the reflection on the still water. Creates another dimension, another world awaits...the looking glass...
thanks for pointing out Neorelix's post.
Coltrane eh? Yup.
nowhere man... you have a great blog!!!
do you take all these photos?... they are really beautiful... i love your coloured buildings... and the hanged out teddy bears :}
Kali Spera e welcome Gaidara (PLEASE COME BACK & CONFIRM THAT IS YOUR NAME, or CORRECT IT FOR ME!!)
Mutual appreciation. But if I don't take them all (with the one single exception of young Miguel 2 weeks ago), who do think does? This is my photoblog, for MY pics.
Don't tell me that you do not take all those fab pictures in your blog! It will break my heart!
And my Dear Edwin, Saviour of the Universe,I'm half-dead today, like a lizard on a rock & feel lousy. I dragged myself out when it was too late to beat the heat, found myself wandering alone for an hour in a mall just becasue of the air-condit. Went into a record shop with no intention to buy. Browsed through a useless, over-commercial collection. Except there it was, in the section labelled "Shirts" (may as well have been, so out of place was it), as alone as me. JC's masterpiece, 1964, his tribute to God in 3 movements. 'A Love Supreme'. And now, here it is, reunited with me after my first copy vanished years ago. So neither JC, nor me, are so alone any more today. Again, thank YOU!
Good to hear you and JC and have each other again. I tell you, that man is just amazing! Have to tell you though, I've only in the last year discovered a passion for instrumental jazz. Vocal pour moi. Miles, of course, tops my list. I just got a copy of the book Kind of Blue: The Making Of by Ashley Kahn which I heard is a fantastic behind-the-scenes look of the album, which happens to be one of my most treasured albums. I'll be reading it when I get to Singapore.
Sarah and Mel keep me sane on most days.
saviour of the universe? you're kidding me yes? with my ego, it should've been His Grand Highness, Lord Saviour!
Just for you, I'm listening to Pt.3 as I write this.
And stop being such a tragic idiot! You love the drama of it all don't you? Well, so do I!
Peace and out!
Bonjour!
A vrai dire j'ai été vraiment deçue quand j'ai appris cette histoire, parce que le cinéma est mon domaine préféré.
Réchauffer la photo de Catherine? C'est intéresant...
:)
Hey I'm here and ready to give you that lesson whenever you My fave of this set is no. 1 - what a cool, lovely place to be. My dream house!
CARAÇAS, porra! I lost my own reply comments, 'cos I just had to go wandering!
To summarise:
Ed: You aren't gonna believe this...["Oh, yes I am!"], but I was about to prefix 'saviour' with Lord. Then I thought I'd give it a while to see what other divine tricks you will come with in the hours & years ahead."Kind of Blue" - MMM-m-m-mmmmm-mmmm.....M!! the all time best of the greatest. & Sarah!Yep. Don't forget Ella! But Mel? Afraid you lost me..can't be the ex-Spice Girl, hardly, not in that kind of company. Tormé? A musical equivalent of Dick Van Dyke! I often let Pat Metheny loose around the house for inspiring accompaniment (are you all enjoying this jazz-chat tangential, photo fans?)
Jen, my eyes are 2 burned out pits of aching hell, so no lessons till they're at least blue again. Pity, these photos needed BIG! And that quiet little tucked away retreat, where every room has a flower's name instead of a number. Looks like a fairy tale, with the beach just 2kms away.
Emmanuelle, ma chère,cést pas Catherine que jái réchauffé, cést Mlle Le Froid! Mais comment peux-je te l'envoyer?
Et ton visiteur italien, Signore Troisième Oeil - vachement marrant!!
OK, that's a wrap.
Ohhh
Je me suis tropmée de nouveau. Parce que Catherine est qussi connue comme une femme froide.
