Love the old-fashioned mail box, too. There aren't enough round/curvy structures nowadays.

Couldn't agree more, Meg. But they are making some kind of post-modernist comeback, e.g. see LisbonWeeklyPhoto.blogspot.com's current post from Carlos.
Of course, round/curvy is kind of part the natural landscape in a city of so many hills. It means you come across some really extraordinary street layouts, at junctions with ups, downs, sideways, arounds - & the trams snaking their way along it. Undeniably romantic, poetic, picturesque and human.
