Grupo de Batuque, Finka-Pé (1)

The performance at Portugal À Rufar of the group Finka-Pé, which is composed of women and a few of their children (including a solitary boy) of Caboverdiana origins and all living in Alto da Cova da Moura, so captivated me that I felt they merited a L-L showcase of their own.

Once again, impossible to show all the pictures some of which are so striking.

After the performance, I offered their coordinator to send them a selection of the best, which I have done and received a warm response and thanks, with more information on their art.

They sit in a circle, singing repeated creole refrains and beating out an accompanying percussive rythym on a cloth covered pad called a tchabeta, which is held between their legs. [continued on next post] Posted by Picasa
